| KARL MARX Karl Marx died in 1883. At the funeral, his friend and long-time collaborator, Frederick Engels, delivered the eulogy. It began with the words: “The world’s most powerful mind has ceased to think.” Engels was not exaggerating. Nearly all social and economic theory since Marx has been in response to his work.
